A gallery for Indian art, traditional and contemporary
Our story
Mirror is an initiative founded by art curator and historian Sweta Singh and Rajat Singh.
Numerous platforms exist today for the sale of art and craft in India. Yet the condition of the artist has changed little. Work is bought and sold, often profitably, while the makers remain distant from the recognition and income their art generates. The success of these platforms and the continued struggle of the artist sit side by side, and that contradiction is where Mirror begins.
Mirror comes out of research and sustained experimentation with a different business model. Most platforms scale by onboarding as many artists as possible, then routing the majority of contracts and visibility to a small, favoured few. We invert this. Rather than a large roster serving a handful, we work with a small, deliberate pool of artists and focus on the equal distribution of work among them, so that opportunity is shared rather than concentrated.
Our aim is not scale for its own sake, but sustenance. We help the artists we work with understand the economy of their own practice, so they can build livelihoods that hold. Mirror is conceived not as an exclusive marketplace, but as a working space where fairness and viability are pursued together.
Mirror is where the maker is never left behind, join us in building a fairer future for India’s art.
